The Kiaga factory is located between the Rutene and Ruarai rivers in the Nyeri district. The cool temperatures and fertile central highlands ensure the development of particularly hard beans. This quality is also evident in the cup. It is the reason why Nyeri is traditionally known as the heart of Kenya's black gold coffee.
Othaya Farmers Co-operative Society Limited is located about 150 km north of Kenya's capital, Nairobi, in Othaya Town, Nyeri County. Othaya is located at an altitude of 1828 masl, nestled between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Ranges. The community was registered in 1956 as a coffee marketing company and initially comprised 250 bath*ers. Currently, the company has 17 factories with a total of 11,000 smallholder farmers.
This coffee is processed wet. It is slowly dried over 2-3 weeks to reduce the moisture content to 10-12%. After drying, the coffee is delivered to the dry mill.
