About the coffee
About the coffee
Damián grew up between the town of San Agustín and his family’s farm in La Muralla, where weekends and school holidays were spent helping his parents with coffee production. Long walks to the farm, days of fieldwork, and the shared routines of rural life shaped his early years. After finishing school in 2012, he worked in retail and later for an agricultural supply company, where visits to farms across southern Huila allowed him to learn new cultivation techniques and invest both knowledge and income back into his family’s farm.
In 2015, Damián and his family moved permanently to La Muralla and gradually built the infrastructure needed to process their own coffee. Previously, they had relied on neighboring farms to ferment and dry their harvests, often selling coffee before processing was complete. A turning point came in 2017, when their coffee placed among the top fifteen lots in the Best of Huila competition. The experience encouraged Damián to pursue specialty coffee more seriously and to focus on improving both quality and processing.
After several years working with a regional coffee exporter, Damián dedicated himself fully to his own farm. Through his collaboration with the MonKaaba project, he continued refining his production while also working as an assistant sample roaster. Today, he sees specialty coffee as the result of continuous learning, perseverance, and a commitment to producing coffees that reflect both his family's work and the potential of their farm.
This lot comes from Finca Buena Vista in La Muralla, San Agustín, Huila. The six-hectare farm includes 4.5 hectares of coffee planted between 1,850 and 1,900 meters above sea level. Cherries are selectively harvested every two weeks, floated, fermented for 15 to 18 hours, depulped, and dry fermented for a further 36 to 38 hours before washing and drying for 18 to 20 days. Harvested between October and December 2025 and shipped in February 2026, this Caturra reflects years of gradual investment, technical learning, and a continued commitment to quality-focused coffee production.
