The »ROTLICHT« Festival for analog photography« is an internationally oriented photography festival, which is taking place in Vienna this year for the fourth time. It transforms Vienna into a vibrant platform for analog photography, with events that span the city, anchored by main venues in the 6th and 7th districts.
From the 15th to the 24th of November 2024, the festival brought together the international photography scene in the capital city. It has now developed into a creative focal point for artistic analog photography in Central Europe. With a diverse program ranging from the main exhibition in the Atelierhaus of the Academy of Fine Arts (formerly Semperdepot) to numerous other exhibitions, workshops, talks, photo walks and evening concerts and parties, the festival offers a platform for creative exchange and artistic discoveries.
This year, a unique addition to the festival is the Coffee and Art Walk, a special collaboration with Kaffeemik, a specialty coffee shop in the 7th district, where art and coffee culture meet.
The Coffee and Art Walk started at Kaffeemik, where participants could enjoy a hand-brewed “Analog Coffee” and an introduction to the world of specialty coffee. Kaffeemik also hosts a small exhibition of four analog photographs by Sellma Frühwirth, whose works are displayed as part of the Rotlicht Festival.
After the coffee experience, the tour led to the Photo Cluster, Vienna’s hub for analog photography, where participants could explore the Grand Prix-winning work. The walk concluded with a guided visit to the festival headquarters, which showcased an array of works from open-call winners and headliner artist Roger Ballen. This walk brought together Vienna’s coffee and art scenes, offering an inviting introduction to analog photography and specialty coffee - ideal for anyone wanting to experience Vienna through both creativity and flavor.
Sellma Frühwirth, a part-time photographer, focuses on movement, women’s photography, and portraiture. She is currently working on long-term projects centered on movement in urban spaces. A coffee enthusiast herself, Sellma is excited to collaborate with Kaffemik for the Rotlicht Festival. For this collaboration, she has created medium format analog photographs that capture elements of coffee culture, now on display at Kaffemik.
