About the coffee
About the coffee
This microlot comes from La Falda and La Valeria farms in Selguapa and Intibucá, western Honduras. Both farms are cared for by Jesús Galeas and his community, who have built their work on shared learning, respect for land, and the exchange of knowledge among smallholder families. The farms rest in the Montecillos mountain range, where coffee is both inheritance and living tradition.
Each day, the cherries are handpicked by four local pickers. They are floated to remove defects, then sealed in GrainPro bags to undergo a low-oxygen fermentation for 48 hours — a method developed through local experimentation and adaptation to the region’s climate. After fermentation, the cherries are dried on raised beds inside a solar dryer for 35 days, allowing slow and even drying that protects both flavor and integrity. The coffee is finally stored in hermetically sealed bags to preserve its natural balance.
Jesus’ work in Selguapa has become a source of motivation and collective growth. Having learned through years with the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE), he returned home to share this knowledge directly with his neighbors. What began as two small producers has now grown into a community network of over thirty farmers, united in their commitment to cultivating specialty coffee through cooperation and shared responsibility.
La Valeria, Jesús’ first inheritance from his father, began as one manzana of land in 2010. Through years of labor, loans, and care, it has grown to five hectares, planted with Pacamara, Catuai, Paraneima, Bourbon, and IH-90. For Jesús, coffee is not only livelihood but legacy — a story of resilience and regeneration written in the soil of Montecillos.
