About the coffee
About the coffee
This lot comes from La Muralla near San Agustín in Huila and is produced by Farid Alejandro “Alejo” Ortega, a third-generation coffee farmer continuing the work of his father Victor and grandfather before him. Growing up on the family’s plots, Alejo learned early what it means to produce coffee with patience, dedication, and technical precision. For many years, the family’s harvest was sold into anonymous local markets with little transparency or long-term stability.
Through Semilla’s support as an export partner, Alejo gained access to trade relationships, pre-financing, and more secure market access. This shift has allowed him to reinvest into farm management, processing infrastructure, and quality-driven production.
Cherries are selectively picked every fourteen days at peak ripeness, then depulped and dry fermented in tiled tanks for 38–40 hours. After washing, the coffee is slowly dried on raised beds for 23–25 days, promoting even moisture reduction and exceptional cup clarity.
In the cup, expect a clean, structured profile with vibrant acidity, high sweetness, and a refined, lingering finish, a direct expression of Huila’s terroir, thoughtful processing, and the growing partnership between producer and market.
