About the coffee
About the coffee
At 2,300 meters in the Guji highlands, the Hambela Goro community cultivates coffee with precision, patience, and purpose.
Led by Tagel Alamayehu, founder of Olkai, this project connects 460 smallholder producers who each care for only a few hundred coffee trees. Together, they grow the Ethiopian variety 74110 — known for clarity, balance, and depth.
Ripe cherries are selectively handpicked, depulped, and fermented for 48 hours before drying on raised beds for up to 12 days. Every step reflects the growers’ experience and their relationship with the land.
Beyond production, Olkai invests directly in its communities — offering fair, above-market payments, distributing seedlings, and supporting education and local infrastructure.
The resulting cup is clean and expressive: floral and citrus-forward, with layers of sweetness and stone fruit depth. A coffee that speaks to place and people — to resilience, collaboration, and care.
