About the coffee
About the coffee
The Tinganga Estate is located in Kiambu County, just north of Nairobi.
Covering 182 hectares, the farm is operated by Sasini PLC, a publicly listed company with majority Kenyan ownership. Sasini places strong emphasis on social responsibility, education, and fair working conditions — providing housing, early childhood care, union membership, and wages above the national minimum.
Together with Olam Specialty and roasting partners worldwide, Sasini also supports the Njenga Karume Primary School, helping build a computer lab that gives local students access to digital learning and new opportunities for the future.
The Kiambu region offers ideal conditions for Arabica coffee: iron-rich, semi-volcanic soils, consistent rainfall, and altitudes reaching up to 2,000 meters above sea level. These cool highlands allow cherries to mature slowly, resulting in a coffee that is both bright and sweet, with layered complexity and floral clarity.
Processing:
Ripe cherries are hand-selected and carefully depulped before being fermented in clean water tanks for 12 to 48 hours, depending on weather conditions.
After fermentation, the beans are washed and density-graded in flowing water channels — the heaviest and most developed beans sink to the bottom and are processed separately for their superior quality.
The parchment coffee is then sun-dried on raised African beds for 2 to 3 weeks, turned frequently for even drying, and covered during the hottest hours and at night to protect it from moisture and heat.
This patient, hands-on process preserves the clarity, structure, and vibrant sweetness that define exceptional coffees from Kiambu.
